In any marriage or partnership, there are those better suited to one role than another. In our 30+ years of marriage I have reneged on having anything to do with the family or household finances. I will cook and shop and take the dog to the vet, but I have no interest in banks, bills or pensions. That's for the other half to deal with.
Then I come to this week in Christian Aid's Lenten Reflections where I am asked to give some thought to financial security and I realise I have the luxury of choosing not to care about money while others in the world, and the world itself, has no such choice.
To claim disinterest is not good enough. It is not Christian or faith-full. We are God's stewards on this earth and that is a call, not to sit back and let others care: it is a challenge to each of us actively to consider the impact on the whole of God's creation, our spending and saving has. Like many, I would like some financial security as I age, but do I want that whatever the cost to the environment? Or when it has a detrimental knock on effect on the lives of others? I need to find out what my pension fund invests in and so do you.

Father
In a world made beautiful by you:
Delicate,
Majestic,
Powerful
And vulnerable,
Help me to care enough
To invest in its future
Not just my own.

Where our money goes shapes the world. Ask your pension fund whether your money is invested in risky fossil fuel projects or is funding a fairer future.
