Learning disabilities

Up to 1% of our nation has a learning disability. These resources are designed for those who are interested in making church more inviting and exciting for those with learning disabilities.

These resources were developed for the Learning Disability Conference 2016.

By working through these resources we hope that you will be able to decide what is best for your church and your community.

We want you to reflect on what suits you and what is achievable. We are not here to suggest a one-size-fits-all course of action.

Making worship more inclusive for those with learning disabilities

We all approach and experience God differently. Church tries to be a place for everyone to worship together, but it is a difficult balance to strike. It is perhaps a good time to ask if our church is reaching out to all members of the family, even ones who encounter God in a different manner.

This presentation can help you examine how inclusive worship is at your church and what steps you can take to make worship more accessible.

Reflecting

This workshop is for those who are new to the area of learning disabilities.

Gathering

This workshop is for people who have started on this journey but have not yet instigated large changes or created new services or groups.

Forming

This workshop is for those who have agreed an approach and have gathered a team of interested people but are yet to hold events or instigate change.

Doing

This workshop is for those who are instigating change, putting on events, carrying out projects, meeting new needs or providing new expressions of church.
