St Matthew's Church in Perth will be hosting representatives from partner churches and organisations in Ghana, Pakistan, India, Croatia, Jamaica and Egypt later this month to share their experiences of interfaith engagement in their context.
The conference has been organised by the World Mission Council, which has chosen interfaith engagement as its focus for the year.
It will be held from 10am-3pm on Saturday 22 September and will include worship, participatory workshops, keynote speakers, discussions and a panel session Q&A.
Attendees will hear from the following speakers:
- Rev Dr Johnson Mbillah, retired General Adviser for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa
- Carolyn Boyd of the Ecumenical Women's Initiative in Croatia
- Jenny Jivan of the Christian Study Centre, Rawalpindi in Pakistan
- Kasta Dip of the India Peace Centre in India
- Heba Yousry of the Synod of the Nile in Egypt
- Rev W P Ebenezer Joseph of the National Council of Churches in Sri Lanka
- Roderick Hewitt of the United Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Presbyteries and congregations can also learn more about the life of churches in other parts of the world, and their links with the Kirk through the 2018 report, ‘Living Together in a World of Religions'
The report contains stories and accounts of the opportunities and challenges that our global partners have experienced as they engage in multi-faith communities.
Mirella Yandoli, Interfaith Programme Officer for the Church of Scotland, who will also speak at the conference, said:
"This is a really exciting opportunity to hear from international partners working with different interfaith challenges and relationships.
"By hearing their stories we have the chance to learn from contexts which, whilst different from our own, are facing universal international challenges such as poverty and inequality.
"Gathering on occasions like these will offer an engaging and thought provoking discussion on what it means to be a world church in an often bewildering modern era."
The event is free to attend and teas, coffees and lunch will be provided.

Promoting interfaith discussions in your church groups
The World Mission Council has also produced the following accompanying resources to the report:
- Their latest game, ‘Interfaith Connections' - a domino game to help congregations learn more about different religions - and
- Bookmarks designed to help you get more out of the report.
If you would like copies of the domino game, report or bookmarks posted to your church, please get in touch with the World Mission team with how many copies you would like and an address to post them to.
