Communications Department
The Communications Department is responsible for providing expert communications advice across a broad range of disciplines, including liaising with the media on proactive and reactive stories about the Church and associated agencies, design services, social media management and the Church's website.
Media team
The Communications Department media team facilitates quick and effective liaison between the Church and the print and broadcast media.
The team respond to numerous phone calls daily from journalists looking for information or comments about Church-related subjects and matters of national or international importance. News releases are issued throughout the year to newspapers, magazines, television newsrooms and radio stations on a range of topics, current issues or news items.
The team also offers guidance and support on proactive and reactive media work to ministers and Church officials.
Design team
The Design team work with the central Church, presbyteries and congregations to provide online and print graphics including the following:
- Brand guidance and Church of Scotland logos
- Web/social media graphics
- Strategic campaign graphics
- Accessible pdf documents/handbooks/reports
- Start to finish design, procurement and production of printed items
- Theme graphics for each General Assembly
- Infographics and illustration
Members of Church staff from all areas, who are responsible for promoting the organisation, are encouraged to get in contact with the Design team who will happy to help.
Web team
The Web team designs, builds and manages the Church of Scotland's main website, which is one of the Church's key national platforms for communication, mission, public information and service delivery.
The team helps ensure that people can find, contact and engage with the Church online, whether they are looking for a local congregation, information about national services, resources for church life, or guidance from departments and committees.
Working with colleagues across the Church, the Web team supports accessible, accurate and well-structured online information. Its work includes content management, website design and development, accessibility, usability, analytics, governance and support for internally managed Church websites and platforms.
The Web team's work includes:
- Managing, developing and improving the main Church of Scotland website
- Providing accessible digital routes for people to find, contact and engage with the Church locally and nationally
- Supporting departments, presbyteries, committees and local churches with trusted, structured and accessible online information
- Developing digital services that support reporting, decision-making and the flow of information between congregations, presbyteries, National office teams and public-facing platforms
- Advising on accessibility, usability, content structure, web governance and good practice
- Supporting key Church events, campaigns and services, including the General Assembly
