Church opens new apprenticeship route to ministry

Published on 12 March 2025 1 minute read

And here it is – the Church of Scotland's much-anticipated Apprenticeship Route! The question is: could it be for you?

The Apprenticeship Route is a brand-new way for people to explore one of those biggest of questions: what am I going to do with my life? Of course there are lots of ways in which that can go but does exploring a call to serve God describe something of where you're at?

In particular, do you have a sense, however tentative, that this might involve ministry in one form or another. Maybe the best way to find out is to try it out. The Apprenticeship Route offers you exactly that opportunity.

Check out the launch video above but in brief, here's the deal:

  • A two-year programme as part of a small-team of apprentices, working and learning in a hub with the support of experienced mentors
  • On-the-job experience with a wide range of taste-and-see opportunities of what ministry in all its forms might look like for you
  • An introduction to some biblical and theological learning
  • Two years to let God shape you more and more into the person you're becoming

A tremendous opportunity, for sure, and with an annual salary of £21,000 and contract of employment such that it that might be exactly right for you.

We're looking for people who (unless in exceptional circumstances) are between the ages of 18-40.

We're looking for people who've started out on their Christian journey and want to go further.

And we're looking for people ready for the adventure that begins when we say to God: Here I am.

Watch the video then get in touch through the QR code or by emailing ministry@churchofscotland.org.uk. Or by phoning 0131 225 5722 and asking or Angie or Martin.

Is this your moment?
