Life and Work, the magazine of the Church of Scotland is providing you with this information to comply with data protection law and to ensure that you are fully informed and we are transparent in how we collect and use your personal data.
Who is collecting the information?
The Church of Scotland is the Data Controller for Life and Work magazine & website. We have an appointed Data Protection Officer (DPO), Alice Wilson, who can be contacted by emailing: Privacy@churchofscotland.org.uk
Why are we collecting it and what are we doing with it (Purpose)?
We collect your information to enable us to provide you with either a paper or digital copy of Life and Work, the magazine of the Church of Scotland which details the various work of the Church.
Your Personal Data
Name, address, email address, contact telephone number and payment information (e.g. credit, debit card details or bank details for direct debit).
How are we collecting this information? What is the source?
Your data is collected directly from you on the magazine website hosted by Adept Design (Norfolk) Ltd . If you request a digital copy of the magazine, you will be directed to Pocketmags who process these requests on our behalf.
The lawful basis for the processing
The processing of personal data for recruitment purposes are UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b) "processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract".
Who we share the information with
We use third party Adept Design (Norfolk) Ltd to host the magazine website. We use Pocketmags (Jellyfish Connect Ltd) to provide subscribers with a digital version of the magazine. We also use third party Warners Midlands Plc to fulfil your print order of Life and Work magazine. All of these third parties are processors and there is an appropriate contract in place. We do not sell or rent data to any third parties. All of these companies are based within the UK and do not transfer data outside the UK unless instructed to by the Church and with appropriate safeguards in place.
How long do we hold the personal data?
We retain subscription data for a minimum of six years after you have cancelled your subscription. Following that period your data will be destroyed securely following church procedures.
Individuals' rights in relation to this processing
Under data protection laws individuals have a number of rights, these are detailed here.
For the purposes of recruitment processing, all the rights apply except for the Right to Object. If you wish to exercise any of your rights, please contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO) at Privacy@churchofscotland.org.uk who will process your request accordingly and without undue delay, within the one month deadline.
