Ministers, Deacons, MDS and Self-Isolation

There is not, and can be no exemption from the Scottish Government's instruction to self-isolate for ministers, deacons and other church staff. The Scottish Government allow businesses to apply for exemption on narrow grounds, none of which apply to the Church. This means that if you or a household member test positive you must isolate for the full ten-day period. Isolation of course does not mean that a minister or deacon cannot work. If you are ill you take the time off as necessary, but simply isolating still allows the possibility of recording services, undertaking remote pastoral work, writing funerals for colleagues to lead etc. The only thing it stops is the ‘in person' aspect of ministry and colleagues should be supportive of each other throughout this period.
