PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Sky - Rainbow

I have set my bow in the clouds and it shall be a sign of the covenant between
me and the earth.
Genesis 9:13

Prayer

When Projected through the moist air
on to the cloudy canvas
the sun breaks through!
An arc of glorious colours
transforming the environment
and reflecting the promise of God.
God, the Maker
who calls humanity into a Rainbow Coalition.

Lord,
I hear that term so often in the news
to describe some uneasy alliance
between different political or social groups
each pursuing their own agenda.
That's not what you meant, is it?

Imagine all the people
living life as you intended!
The full spectrum of the human race
united in common promise
to nourish one another,
to cherish the earth,
to revere your world.

Is this just a childlike dream?

Lord,
I don't want to grow out of it.
I love rainbows.
They fill me with hope and joy
and belief in the goodness of life.
I don’t want my reality reduced to black and/or white.

Help me to keep striving for colours -
until the day the rainbow
dwells upon the earth.

Readings

Genesis 9:8-17 God's covenant with Abraham
Ezekiel 1:1-28 The splendour of the glory of God is like a rainbow
Revelation 4:1-11 A rainbow around the heavenly throne
Revelation 10:1-11 The angel with a rainbow over his head

Prayer activity

The rainbow was God's sign of love and healing. In your mind, picture a rainbow
and bask in its glory. Now try to hear a rainbow. What would it sound like? An
African father of fourteen children said, 'We can't all speak at once in the family
but we can all sing!'

Prayer for the Church

The increasing number of people who choose to relate to the Church less through
traditional membership patterns and more through general commitment and particular projects

especially Christian Aid and all agencies concerned with the homeless and healing of God's people.

Blessing

May God bless your dreams,
and may your dream and his
become one. AMEN
