PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Sky - Stars

It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches.
I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.

Revelation 22:16

Prayer

O Little Star
Twinkling in the darkness
Bringing out the child in us
full of awe and wonder at the vastness of the universe
and the mysterious unknown, yet to be discovered.

O North Star
Guiding the traveller
Holding steadfast with a bright beam to point the way
And guide us in the right direction.

O Lost Star
Hiding behind light pollution
Living out our need for more heat and light
Has taken its toll on the sustainability of the earth.

O Morning Star
Revealing Christ in the dawn
Fallen from heaven to dwell amongst us on earth.

O God who created the stars
Be for us a light
Fill us with excitement at the wonder of the universe
Guide us as we seek out a path and a direction
Be present with us even when we strain to see your light.

Be for us a star
Bright, shining, twinkling, guiding, revealing -
A star that breaks through the dawn
A presence for the day.

Readings

Isaiah 14:12 Israel is like a fallen star
Matthew 2:2-10 The wise men follow the star
1 Corinthians 15:41 The glory of the stars
2 Peter 1:19 The morning star will rise in your hearts
Revelation 2:28 To the one who conquers I will give the morning star

Prayer activity

It may be difficult to see stars if you live in an urban context where light pollution
prevents us from seeing them clearly. However, if you can, try to gaze up at the
stars and just marvel at the vastness of them! Perhaps you could learn a pattern
of one of the constellations and then try to spot it in the sky at different times of
the year.

Prayer for the Church

Centres to which people may withdraw to renew body and mind and to engage more deeply in worship and study, seeking the relevance of the Gospel for the modern world

especially all retreat centres and places of calm and quiet in a busy world, providing rest and recreation of the spirit.

Blessing

Holy One
Be a bright light in our fear of the darkness
Be a guiding light when we have lost our way
Be a starlight radiant in the universe
Shining out your light on all the earth.
