PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Risk-taking Relationships - Chuza's wife and Jesus

... and Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza ... and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.

Luke 8:3

Prayer

God, we know it's the lesser known ones
that often make the bigger difference,
who have to stand out further
and take the biggest risk,
like Joanna, the wife of rich Chuza,
funding a ministry with quite conspiracy
and greater danger;
a woman's passion that leads her to resource,
not the great things that bring applauds and sponsorship deals,
kudos and a name for themselves,
but the daily things,
like food,
like water,
and like wine and bread.

May the world bless those who at great risk,
provide the everyday needs for us:
those who work without security,
to grow our tea and coffee;
those who work without protection,
to grow our flowers and fruit;
those who work without freedom,
to grow our rice and grain.

Bless those children of Joanna,
who know the risk of the everyday,
that furnishes our needs and lifestyles,
and whose voices....

Readings

Luke 8:1-5 Those who supported Jesus

Prayer activity

Make yourself a cup of tea. Think about the story of that tea, who brought it to your table, who produced it, cared for it, blended it, grew the leaves, harvested it, and who themselves may never have tasted it.

Prayer for the Church

Those who ensure that the local church is well supported and staffed and who take imaginative initiatives in mission and outreach where people live, work and spend their leisure me,

especially the chaplaincies in hospitals, education, industry, prisons and residential homes, and those who work in the task groups devoted to education and nurture, mission and evangelism engaging with a variety of challenges, both rural and urban.

Blessing

Today, may we hear in whispers your whole story,
in silence your cry for love,
and in the people we see, nameless and unknown to us,
your saints among us.
