PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Risk-taking Relationships - Esther and the king

Now Esther was admired by all who saw her ... the king loved Esther more than all the other women ...

Esther 2:15,17

Prayer

Safety in a number but most loved and special,
No wonder Esther was admired, God!

Esther had influence and attention
As her outward appearance pleased.

How often do we wish for immunity in the crowd,
Yet special privileges
Because we know someone or someone likes us?

God, we know that revealing our inmost is risky
And when we know, like Esther,
That beauty is fleeting,
That favour is fickle
And real love is challenging,
Help us have the courage God.
Help us have:
The spontaneity to ask the question,
The passion to say what we need
And the honesty to admit who we are,
And bless us in today's bold step.

Readings

Mark 1:14-20 Calling the fisherfolk
Exodus 3:1-6 Moses and the burning bush
John 2:13-22 Cleansing of the Temple

Prayer activity

Open your diary or look at your calendar and reflect on the events and circumstances of the past week. Call to mind the decisions you had to make. Were any of them difficult? How did you decide? Did you try anything new or bold? Did you stick to what you knew and play safe? Where was God in these times?

Prayer for the Church

Its mission partners working with churches overseas, sharing their lives and challenges, and all those who strive toe support efforts to reduce the crippling debt in the world which contributes to famine, and oppression

especially the HIV/AIDS project and World Mission Council.

Blessing

Dance as though no one is watching you,
Love as though you have never been hurt before,
Sing as though no one can hear you,
Live as though heaven is on earth.
Anon.
