PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Unconditional relationships - Joseph and his family

And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked with him.

Genesis 45:15

Prayer

God,
in Jacob, you show us - love that has favourites breeds jealousy
in Joseph, you remind us - vision without sensitivity creates misunderstanding
in the brothers, you teach us - that wrong turns need righting.

God, your love story is not hearts and flowers
Not idyllic and easy.
Your love story is:
slow but sure
watching and waiting,
enduring and exciting.
Your story is life and death,
Birth and grief,
Cross and tomb,
Full and constant.

Unconditional God,
thank you for the opportunities that people will have today,
to talk things through,
to meet again after time apart,
to draw lines under grudges and let go of bitterness.
Thank you for the healing moments where people can:
Weep in remorse,
sigh in relief,
Relax in relationships
smile at new people
and feel known and loved - loved and known by you. Amen

Readings

Genesis 45 A reconciliation
John 4 A woman known and loved

Prayer activity

Thinking of Joseph and his family, is there anyone in your family or circle of friends that you have not spoken to for a long time? Why is this? Is there any hurt or past regret? Hold this before God and ask for the grace to make moves of reconciliation and restoration.

Prayer for the Church

Our own part in the Church and the special and unique gifts I have been given by God to contribute to the building up of the body of Christ.

Blessing

Let the love story of the Creator
the healing of the Saviour
and the enthusiasm of the Spirit
shine in you this day,
for all the world. Amen.
