PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Resurrection journey

Jesus said to them 'Come and have breakfast.'
John 21:12

Prayer

Emergency situations, life-changing revelations,
Adrenalin pumping, panic stricken, drama that overwhelms –
Happy are those who experience the ordinary.

Days that blur together, food that has no taste or effect,
Noises and smells and thoughts of never being home again –
Happy are those who get out of hospital.

Memories of what once was, photographs and songs that stir,
Tears and pangs and waves of what will never be again –
Happy are those who find new relationships.

Convinced by a need, dependent on a substance,
Spiralling down, justifying actions, risking all –
Happy are those who do not want.

Everything changed, no way forward,
Hitting rock bottom, nothing to lose, no going back –
Happy are those who know their need of God.

Resurrection God,
May all who are weak and weary, desperate and exhausted,
Know the hope and transforming power of your love
Whatever hell they go through.
May they see a new morning
like your broken disciples
who sat in your presence and ate. AMEN.

Readings

John 20:1–10 The resurrection of Jesus
John 21:1–14 Resurrection breakfast
Matthew 5:1–12 Happy are those . . .

Prayer activity

Call to mind someone from the news, your community, family or circle of friends who has been through an overwhelming circumstance. Notice how they have coped, how far they have come - what does their journey teach you?

Prayer for the Church

Those who assist us to take our place in, and be enriched by, the experience and witness of the Christian Church where we are at this present time

especially those who brought us to faith, those who pray for us regularly and those with whom we share our faith daily.

Blessing

Breathe on me, Breath of God;
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love the way you love,
And do what you would do.
