PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Sacrificial/oppressive relationships - Jesus and Judas

Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?

John 12:5

Prayer

Sometimes I just can't keep up with you, Jesus.
One minute you talk about the poor,
the next you talk of banquets and feasting.
One minute you tell the rich young man to give up everything,
and the next you are producing more wine for the wedding.
One minute you said there will be poor with us always
and the next you are being bathed in expensive oil.

But then, maybe these moments call me to see beyond:
not seeking an immediate quick fix,
but living into the future;
not solving a problem by throwing a solution at it,
but choosing to live a more permanent way of justice.

Jesus, help me recognise the sacred moments
that call for a change in my living,
that call for a change in me.
May I now not imagine problem A will be solved with solution B,
or there is a formula to solve all the world's problems,
but that by living more justly,
I may be ready to celebrate goodness and hope when it happens,
knowing each is part of a lifetimes journey,
where I am called to give my whole life
to being an agent for change in the realm of love.

Readings

Mark 9:31-8 In this for the long term
Luke 18:18-30 Giving up
John 12:1-8 Jesus anointed at Bethany

Prayer activity

Being an agent of change begins with prayer. Tear out stories of injustice from the paper today and paste them into a scrap book or onto a sheet of paper and hold them with you throughout the day and the rest of the week.

Prayer for the Church

Those who enable the celebration of life and faith through the arts and help others bythis means to discover their gifts and talents

especially the Netherbow Arts Centre.

Blessing

Celebrate the wonder of God;
celebrate the moments when heaven dances with earth;
celebrate the doorways that set justice free;
and live your life as that celebration, everyday.
