PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Astonishing relationships - Emmaus and strangers

When he was at table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him;....
Luke 24: 30 - 31

Prayer

May we gather round table
as strangers,
yet in the sharing of bread,
discover we are sisters and brothers.

May we look into the eyes of travellers
as strangers,
yet in the sharing of a word,
discover we are companions on the road.

May we hear the confusion of journeyers
as strangers,
yet in the sharing of questions,
discover we are adventurers on the way.

Jesus, who meets us in the guise of stranger,
whose face is glimpsed in breaking open hospitality,
create among us
countless meeting places:
in setting of table,
in opening of doors
in sharing of food
in offering greetings
that we meet you
in every stranger,
and in this sharing of Gospel,
discover our own place in the family of God.

Readings

Luke 24:13-35 Emmaus experience
Acts 9:1-9 Damascus Road Experience
Mark 7:24-30 Syro-Phoenician woman
Acts 10:9-16 Heaven's inclusive picnic

Prayer activity

Place an empty chair in front of you. Imagine it is Jesus sitting there. What do you want to ask him? And what does he say?

Prayer for the Church

Those who care for the interests of those who are retired and in need of support

especially the Church of Scotland Pension Trustees and the Housing and Loan Fund.

Blessing

May eating together always make more sense than fighting,
may sharing what we have always make more sense than taking,
may asking our questions always make more sense than shouting our certainties,
and may breaking bread together always make more sense than division.
