PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Beyond boundaries

Now the Lord said to Abram, 'Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.'
Genesis 12:1

Prayer

Sometimes, our journeys take us
Beyond the boundaries of our comfort zone
Into that unfamiliar place or experience
And we find ourselves
At that turning point
Where choices are made.

Stepping out
Moving on
Saying farewells
Acknowledging fear
Containing excitement
Embracing the unknown

Sometimes, things are clearer to see
outside the box of our comfort zone
stepping out from a familiar place or experience
and we find ourselves
with a prophetic voice or vision
chipping away at the edges.

So as we journey into ventures new
Trusting in your guiding Spirit
Seeking your presence,
Like Abram, we find that
God, you are with us in the familiar place
God, you are with us in the unknown place
In this place and that place
In every place.

Readings

Genesis 12:1- 10 Abram and Sarai set out into the desert
John 4:1–42 Woman at the well
John 21:15–20 Jesus and Peter - feed my lambs

Prayer activity

Think of the turning points in your life and faith journey. What experiences led up to that sense of moving on, turning around? Try to recall the emotions, places and people involved. Where did you find God in these turning points?

Prayer for the Church

That we may worship, work and witness alongside those of a variety of denominations, recognising that the Holy Spirit of God binds us together

especially for the work of the Committee on Ecumenical relations, charities such as Christian Aid and sister congregations in our community.

Blessing

Sent by the Lord am I;
My hands are ready now
To make the earth a place
In which the kingdom comes.
The angels cannot change
A world of hurt and pain
Into a world of love,
Of justice and of peace.
The task is mine to do,
to set it really free.
