PRAY NOW: TODAY'S PRAYER

Let us go to the House of the Lord

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.

Psalm 23:6

Prayer

God,
When our hopes fade and life is hard,
when our faith is shakey and the world uncertain,
when we feel that praying is the wrong thing to do
because we have no words, no good things to say, no way to begin . . .
let us journey to your house, Lord.

Your church;
place of sanctuary and peace -
the community of the forgiven,
the body of Christ,
where some have words when others have no voice,
where all are welcome and remembered.

In confident intercession we pray this day
for those weighed down by a situation in their family:
a feud, a betrayal, an argument about blame.
And we ask, God, that you would be in the midst
enabling apologies and change, restoration and wholeness.
Gentle God, we ask for your peace this day
in the lives of those who struggle without light or hope
due to overwhelming news, those coming to terms with illness,
or the loss of a loved one, and those who feel that no one understands.

God of creation, Calvary and the empty tomb,
you house those in need of protection and refuge,
you shelter those with fear and fatigue,
In your presence, with your people,
we are heard and known and loved.
We begin and return to you
for you, God, are our home.

Prayer activity

A story to reflect on . . .

THE LOCKED CHURCH
He walked up the path to the beautiful church. A quiet time, alone with God, a time of peace, a time to collect his thoughts. But when he reached the door and turned the handle he found the door was locked. Then he saw the piece of paper pinned to the door. 'Sorry, I'm not here. I'm out there. God.'

Prayer for the Church

That pilgrims, travellers and visitors may journey safely, find friendship on arrival, and discover benefit and spiritual enlightenment in the process

especially from Scottish Churches' World Exchange, St Colm's International House in Edinburgh and local initiatives of hospitality.

Blessing

God,
be light for us
be warmth for those we love
be Father and future and eternal hope
through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
