Introduction to webcasting
Webcasting provides the opportunity to view pictures and
sounds over the Internet. This cutting edge technology,
while still in its infancy, is a breakthrough in modern
communications, often bringing previously unseeable events
into homes across the world. This year we are providing
video highlights of the event for you to view on demand.
In order to view and listen to these videos, you will
need Microsoft ® Media Player or alternatively Quick
Time on your computer. This may already be installed.
To find out, view our test video by clicking on one
of the links below: (This may take several minutes.)

things about the General Assembly
If you could watch these videos, congratulations! You
are now able to access
our archived videos here or click here to visit
our General
Assembly Go Live! page.
If you couldn't see the testing videos above, you
need to install Windows ® Media Player or QuickTime.
To do this you will need details of your operating system,
i.e. Windows 98, XP, Mac OS X etc. These details can
be found by doing one of the following:
a) searching your system help file
b) reading your computer documentation/disks
c) viewing computer start up initial splash screen
d) asking your system administrator/supplier
Armed with this information, you now need to download
the appropriate version of Media Player from Microsoft
site - available
here.
QuickTime is available
here.
Click on the downloaded file and follow installation
instructions. Please note these links will take you
out of the Church of Scotland website and open a new
browser window.
On completion, try testing webcast here
with our test videos. The Microsoft Media Player
window or QuickTime window should now be visible and
installation is complete. (Connection may take several
minutes.)
Some systems, especially older systems and ones behind
firewalls, may not be able to receive the webcast. Please
note that it is up to local IT administrators to configure
their networks accordingly. (see
F.A.Q.s re firewalls)
If you are still unable to see the video clip, try
re-installing Media Player or QuickTime. Failure again
may mean your computer can not receive webcast videos
or live streams. This being the case, we suggest that
the webcast is just one aspect of this site.
