What makes an area a priority?
In 2001 the General Assembly gave a mandate that “priority for the poorest and the most marginalised is the gospel imperative facing the whole Church, not just the Church in our poorest communities”. The General Assembly has continued to re-affirm this commitment.
The Church currently designates 64 congregations as Priority Areas. These are communities where deprivation rates fall within the bottom 5% across all of the social and economic indicators as identified by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. God calls us to be with the poorest and marginalised.
