Formartine Youth Project

Supported by: Udny and Pitmedden, Methlick, and Tarves linked with Barthol Parish Churches

Based in Aberdeenshire, Formartine Youth Project is an inspiring partnership of four churches coming together to meet the needs of young people in this rural area. They work directly with young folk, helping them deal with some of life's big issues. They run a range of activities designed to bring the life of the church fully into the community. Their mission statement is Be, Belong and Believe. They want to help young people: to be themselves, develop relationships to belong in their own communities, schools and churches and encourage them to believe in who they are as unique individuals and as children of God.

"We focused on how we could connect young people on the fringes of the church with the church family. We identified those who clearly had faith but no real platform to grow or express themselves.

It was essential for our Children and Youth Worker to build relationships with these young people and through this we were able to create connections between them and the different ministry groups that the Churches offered.

We now have many young people who offer their time and gifts to groups such as: Messy Church, organising youth away days, Sunday school, joint events, as well as giving practical help on the sound desk and during church services. They are no longer on the fringes, but play a significant part in the church family where they are welcomed and cared for in return."
