World Church Teams Each congergation is encouraged to have a World Church Team to inform, involve and inspire their congregation to think global. The team's purpose is to: * Help congregations and the parishes to become more aware of the worldwide family of Jesus Christ to which they belong, and in this way * Experience and enjoy sharing in God's mission on Earth as partners with other churches in this work * Promote worship, witness and service, together with other churches and related organisations both here and overseas. World Church representative: It would be useful for this lay person to be a member of the kirk session but above all they should have a personal interest in World Mission. Your role is to: * Inform - themselves, the minister and the congregation of the worldwide work of the Church of Scotland * Involve - a greater interest by the congregation in the life of their fellow Christians beyond their own parish and their own denomination * Organise - activities both with the congregation and with other churches, with the assistance of other members of the team. * Liase - with their presbytery's World Mission convener, the Presbyterial Council convener and project co-ordinator * Receives: quarterly publication of "Insight" incorporating Prayerlink, plus other material at regular intervals Partner Plan correspondent: Your role is to: * Convey - the life, work and witness of the congregation to mission partners overseas and the life, work and witness of mission partners to the congregation * Write - to and encourage others to correspond with the congregation's mission partner. * Distribute - copies of the mission partner's letter and ensure that all members are aware of the news contained in it * Liaise - with the World Mission presbytery convener about the mission partner's visit during their home leave * Assist - the World Church representative in his/her role in the congregation * Receives: Partner Plan letters, Partner Plan poster and photographs. Biographical notes, a factsheet, list of videos, slides and photo displays are all available for the area the mission partner works in Guild representative: Your role is to: * Help - the members of the Guild become more aware of the worldwide family of Jesus Christ, to which they belong * Inform - Guild members about the work of the board by sharing the news they receive at council meetings * Encourage - your Guild to support one of the World Mission projects * Arrange - a World Mission meeting for Guild members during the kirk session. To assist - the World Church representative in his/her role in the church * Receives: Information from the council project co-ordinator. Lists of speakers, videos, slides and photo displays are available on request from World Mission. World Mission news items appear in the Guild newsletter Christian Aid representative: Your role is to: * Distribute - Christian Aid materials to the appropriate leaders and organisations in the parish and raise the profile of Christian Aid within the congregation * Encourage - more church members to receive and read Christian Aid materials * To promote - action for the issues and concerns that Christian Aid is involved in worldwide * Co-ordinate - the congregation's involvement in Christian Aid week and be their representative on the local Christian Aid committee * Assist - the World Church representative in his/her role in the church * Receives: Information direct from the Christian Aid office or from the local Christian Aid committee Downloaded from www.churchofscotland/worldmission Created: March 2006
