Daily reflections for Lent
Published on 9 February, 2016
This Lent, the Church of Scotland has partnered with Christian Aid Scotland, to bring you 40 daily reflections from Christians across Scotland and around the world. Using prayers, reflections, images and video we will tell the stories of ancient saints and everyday pilgrims.
Visit our dedicated Lent 2016 web page every day to find a new message to inspire you and help you reflect on your own spiritual journey.
"The season of Lent is a special time in the Christian year," says Rt Rev Dr Angus Morrison, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
"Lent marks the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert as he contemplated his own spiritual and earthly journey and strengthened his commitment to the mission he was sent to earth to achieve. Lent culminates with Holy Week and the story of Christ's supreme sacrifice, offering up his own life so that we might be saved.
"It's good then that as Christians we take time during Lent to reflect on our own spiritual journey and deepen our faith and trust in God. Are we living our Christian beliefs? Are we achieving what we were sent to earth to achieve? Can we do better? And if so, how do we set our feet on the path that will take us closer to God?
"To help us enter the spirit of Lent, the Church has partnered with Christian Aid to bring you a series of reflections from people across the Church. I hope you will enjoy them and use them to lift and inspire you on your daily journey."
Kathy Galloway, Head of Christian Aid Scotland adds, "It is the calling of Christian Aid to accompany the wilderness journey of Lent; to hold out the possibility of another way, the way of justice, the way of faith, hope and love."
