Speak Out! campaign challenges violence against women

Violence against women is being challenged by the Church of Scotland with today marking the launch of Speak Out! – a campaign offering people the opportunity to protest against this global issue.

This is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and 16 women and men of all ages, and from all aspects of church life will 'Speak Out' to describe what they're doing to challenge violence against women, and suggest action the Church and its members could take.

Former Moderator of the General Assembly, Very Rev Lorna Hood, is supporting the campaign. Watch a video message from her explaining the purpose of this initiative.

Each message will be shared via social media (Facebook and Twitter), and added to a 'wall of images' on the Church of Scotland Facebook page.

On the final day – 10 December, International Human Rights Day – the current Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt Rev John Chalmers, will summarise the campaign and highlight key messages and action points for the Church going forward.

We encourage you to take part by:

* sharing our 'Speak Out' messages on social media #VAW #16Days to link into the global campaign @16DaysCampaign / www.facebook.com/16DaysCampaign

* sending us your own stories of speaking out, either in text or photo form, to add to our 'Speak Out' image wall. Email churchandsociety@churchofscotland.org.uk. Download a template here.

The campaign will launch on Tuesday 25 November, and run until Wednesday 10 December. Further information about the global 16 days campaign can be found here:
