The Church and Society Council has produced the video to highlight the work congregations around the country have launched to help their communities flourish.

Among the many examples of good work being carried out by congregations thanks to funding from the Church's Go For It grant making scheme are:

  • The Edinburgh Street Pastor Initiative, which recruits and trains teams to patrol the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights, providing support and practical help to the homeless, vulnerable, revellers and tourists. The street pastors initiative is one of six projects adopted by The Church of Scotland Guild during 2015-2018. Find out more about Edinburgh Street Pastors.
  • Kate’s Kitchen, a project run by volunteers in the halls of St Andrew's Parish Church of Scotland in Annan, works with local people who are homeless or on low incomes; serving hot, healthy meals, offering a listening ear, and signposting to services of support. Find out more about Kate's Kitchen.
  • The Croft at St Enoch’s Hogganfield Parish Church in Glasgow, which assists visitors to HMP Barlinnie; explaining prison procedures, making referrals to support organisations and providing emotional support. Find out more about The Croft.
  • The Drop Inn at Lochee Parish Church in Dundee employs a Community Support Worker (based at the Community Café) to help recovering substance users redevelop social skills, and to provide support and advice to their families. Find out more about the Drop Inn.

Today is World Social Justice Day which is a UN initiative promoting employment, decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being.

The Church and Society Council of the Church of Scotland is at the forefront of supporting these aspirations.
