How can Church of Scotland congregations become communities where people with learning disabilities feel they belong?
If you are interested in being part of the answer to this question, you can register today for a conference organised by The Mission & Discipleship Council's Learning Disabilities Working Group.
The conference, Creating Communities of Belonging, will take place from 10.30am –3.30pm 6 June, 2015 at the University of Dundee. The cost is £20. Closing date for bookings is 15 May 2015.
"We want to develop sustainable ways to support and enable congregations to be inclusive for all people," said Elspeth McCallum, Convenor of the Learning Disabilities Working Group.
"We hope the conference will connect, resource and inspire those with a passion for enabling their churches to be communities where those living with learning disabilities feel that they belong," said Mrs MCallum.
"Delegates will have an opportunity to: connect with others from congregations who have established relevant initiatives and approaches; consider what the Bible has to say; and be further resourced and inspired through engaging with organisations that have developed resources and support."
Brian Brock from Aberdeen University's School of Divinity, History and Philosophy, will give the keynote speech: "What do we mean by belonging?"
The event, part of the Learn initiative to support church development, will also include discussion groups looking at which aspects of church life need to be developed to create communities of belonging and seminars that will explore good practice. Delegates will plan what steps totake when they return to their home congregations.
