Moderator celebrates 175th anniversary of historic Scots church in England

The Right Reverend Sheilagh Kesting, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, will attend a special service of Thanksgiving at the Border Kirk in Carlisle to celebrate its 175th anniversary.

The Thanksgiving Service is part of the year-long series of celebrations of the building which is the only Church of Scotland place of worship in Cumbria.

The Moderator will reflect on the past history of the Border Kirk and encourage its members to continue to engage with those of all faiths in Cumbria.

The church currently has 495 members, including the Border Kirk Youth Club, of whom 90% are of Scottish descent.

The Right Reverend Sheilagh Kesting is the first female minister to become Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
