New Kirk Moderator walks across water

WALKING on water is one of Jesus' best-known miracles from the Gospels.

Tomorrow, albeit slightly less miraculously, the new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland will walk across the River Clyde- using the footpath on the Erskine Bridge.

the Moderator
On his first engagement in his Moderatorial year, Right Reverend Bill Hewitt is the official starter of Christian Aid's sponsored walk across the bridge tomorrow afternoon.

He will also complete the 1.4 mile crossing by foot and chat to other walkers and runners along the way.

Christian Aid's Erskine Bridge sponsored walk has been running annually since 1987 and officials hope the 300 walkers will raise over £20,000 for the charity's work in the developing world. The event gets underway at 2pm.

Mr Hewitt attends the General Assembly of the Irish Presbyterian Church in Belfast next week.

Ends.
