Holy ones pray for hole-in-one!

Church of Scotland ministers will tee off with priests of the Roman Catholic Church in a unique golfing match at Kilmacolm Golf Club, Renfrewshire on Thursday 19 April.

Ministers and priests from as far afield as Golspie, Arbroath, Perthshire and Faslane (see below for full list of participants) will gather for this special match which will serve to highlight the work done by the anti-sectarianism organisation Nil by Mouth. This follows recent high-profile collaborations between the two churches, including the Church of Scotland’s Moderator, The Right Rev Alan McDonald, and Cardinal Keith O’Brien’s Old Firm match visit to Celtic Park in March.

Two teams with a total of 24 players are being brought together for the game which is sponsored by the Edinburgh-based Newgate Motoring Solutions, suppliers of cars to the clergy. Each team comprises two ministers and two priests with a trophy going to the team with the highest score.

"We hope to make this an annual match, to further cement friendships and demonstrate once more that the churches are united in their determination to stamp out sectarianism," said Rev John Chalmers of Church of Scotland.

Nil By Mouth is Scotland’s first organisation dedicated to challenging sectarianism. Founded by Cara Henderson in 1995, its aims to raise awareness, stimulate debate and encourage people to think about sectarianism and what role they can play in challenging religious prejudice.
