Scots want to "reconnect with faith"

Archbishop of York and Cardinal O'Brien back the National Gathering

A minister has called on 10,000 Christians to change the image of the church in Scotland at next weekend’s National Gathering.

This is the first time the Church of Scotland has ventured into a "T in the Park" type of event for the whole country. Music, dance, art and "food for thought" will be the order of the day.

Rev. Albert Bogle, minister of St. Andrew's Church in Bo'ness, heads up the project, and he believes the event will be the perfect example to show the church is alive and relevant to modern day life in Scotland.

"It seems to me that there is a holy discontent within the nation, people today are looking for more.

" But not just in monetary terms, they're looking for purpose, inspiration and above all to reconnect with faith that is relevant for everyday life."

The National Gathering is being held at the Royal Highland Showground in Ingliston, and a number of high profile church leaders have already added their support, including the Moderator of the General Assembly and Cardinal Keith O'Brien.

On Sunday morning the Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu, who has openly called for the removal of Robert Mugabe from Zimbabwe, will be a keynote speaker.

Rev. Bogle invites everyone to join the celebrations:

" There is a big welcome waiting to the whole of Scotland to get connected with a church without walls."

Ends.
