"The Church of Scotland is concerned
that climate change poses a serious and immediate threat
to people everywhere, particularly to the poor of the
earth; and that climate change represents a failure
in our stewardship of God's creation. We accept the
need to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases urgently
to avoid dangerous and irreversible climate change;
and to promote a more equitable and sustainable use
of energy."
Adrian Shaw has been
appointed to the post. Adrian comes from a local government
background having moved from South Ayrshire Council
where he was policy manager in the Chief Executive's
department. He is a member of the Scottish Council of
WWF - the World Wide Fund for Nature.
Adrian will be working in three main areas.
- The first is to work with the Councils of the Church
to identify the impacts of climate change and help
Councils to address these impacts.
- The second part of the task is to support eco-congregations; to work
with them to help them respond effectively to climate
change.
- The third is to contribute to the wider debate in
Scotland, for example through the Stop
Climate Chaos coalition.
The post is located in the Church and Society Council but is jointly supported by the World Mission Council and Mission and Discipleship Council.
Ends.
