Kirk breaks new ground with meeting in Polmont Young Offenders Institution
New ground will be broken next week when, for the first
time, one of the Church of Scotland's councils
will meet for business inside a Scottish prison.
The visit is set to take place during Prisoner’s
Week 2007, the theme of which is "Who Cares?"
The Mission & Discipleship Council, one of the seven
councils constituted by the General Assembly of 2005,
has responsibility for the Kirk's youth work and as
such is set to meet at the Polmont Young Offenders Institution
next Wednesday, 14 November.
During the visit, council members will tour the prison
and learn more about the crucial work being undertaken
by prison staff to support the young people in their
care.
Commenting on next week's event, the Rev Dr Angus
Morrison, convener of the Mission & Discipleship
Council, said: "This provides
us with a timely and appropriate opportunity to affirm
our support of the valuable work of the Scottish Prison
Service and of its staff."
Ends.
