Kirk's secretary Pauline ready to face major challenges in new role

THE Church of Scotland has today appointed Pauline Weibye as Secretary to the Council of the Assembly.

Mrs Weibye, Session Clerk at Craigmillar Park Church, Edinburgh, has spent her working life in the public sector in a variety of management roles, joining local government soon after graduating from the University of Edinburgh.

In the newly created position, Mrs Weibye will be responsible for ensuring that the central administration of the Church of Scotland runs smoothly and efficiently in order to free up the Kirk's people to spread God's word and the Church's message of hope.

Mrs Weibye has been a member of the Central Services Committee of the Church of Scotland since 2005 and Vice Convenor (Human Resources) since 2006.

With an active involvement in the voluntary service for a number of years, Mrs Weibye is currently a Director and Trustee of Waverley Care, Scotland's largest HIV/AIDS charity, playing an active role in its governance and fundraising.

Mrs Weibye said: "I am delighted to have this new opportunity to serve the Church of Scotland. My job is simply to ensure that the central administration of the Church runs smoothly and efficiently in order to free up our people to spread God's word and the Church's message of hope. We face some major challenges but we have members, ministers and employees with exceptional skills, commitment and faith in Lord. I look forward to working with church people throughout Scotland and with the various Councils and Committees of the General Assembly."

The Church of Scotland has also chosen Reverend John Chalmers, Pastoral Adviser and Associate Secretary of the Ministries Council of the Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, to be the next Principal Clerk the Very Rev Dr Finlay MacDonald retires next May.

Although chosen for the posts both Mrs Weibye and Mr Chalmers have to have their position ratified by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland when it meets in May.

Ends.
