NEW CHARGE DEVELOPMENTS

New Charge Development (NCD) recognises the demographic shifts and population changes that have taken place across Scotland in previous decades. Older areas, once densely-populated, have given way to new housing estates. The people have moved – the Church has not always followed them. But there is also a spiritual sea change. Older patterns of worship and traditional churches do not meet the spiritual needs of the 21st century.

New Charge Development is about mission, about taking the Gospel out to people in ways that make sense to them; it’s about meeting people where they are and when they are available.

This work is about building communities of faith specific to the needs of the local area. New forms of church and approach to church planting are researched through contacts throughout the world to consider the most helpful models of new church in Scotland.

To date, there are 12 new charge developments, some (like Riverside, pictured above) in new buildings and growing in numbers all the time. Others meet in primary schools; some are developing primarily in house groups. All share a refreshing sense of commitment

and evangelism among ministers, core groups and ‘members’ alike.

"It has always been my ambition to preach the Gospel where Christ is not known so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation."
Romans 15:20
