I'm trying to buy a Church Hymnary - 4th edition, ISBN 1-85311-613-1., (full music version) but can't find it in the catalogue, so please can you tell me if it's still available and how to obtain one?
Mark.

Webteam note: The Church Hymnary is published on behalf of the Church Hymnary Trust by Canterbury-SCM Press and is not available via the Saint Andrew Press catalogue. The Office of Worship and Doctrine provides further details within the "Worship on the Web" section.[more]

I am developing a new website for the Presbytery of Glasgow and other churches, and I was wondering if there's any way to link to the news from the main cofs website. The best way would be through rss, but I'm wondering if there's any way to do this at this point.
Daniel Manastireanu

Webteam note: There is currently no RSS news syndication service available (though this may change). All news releases are posted on the central newsroom page [more] and main updates are listed on the latest updates page [more]

This site has really improved lately it seems as if it is alive, I especially like the pray now content, is there any chance of a screensaver download depicting the church of scotland, many thanks.
Tom Richards North Queensferry Scotland

Webteam note: Thank you for this comment. We have no plans for a screensaver at this moment in time. The online photo gallery images are available for use by those technically able. [more]

It would be helpful if the physical address details and particularly the telephone number of your Edinburgh HQ appeared in a prominent position on the Home Page, rather than have to guess where it might be found. Not all business can be conducted via a website.
AMcConochie Aberdeen Scotland

Webteam note: Thank you for this comment. For users wishing to contact the church offices, there is a complete listing of ALL church offices in the "Contact us" section. [more]

The discussion board is sadly missed. Lots of controversy on the Board meant less heat when issues came up at Presbytery - and sometimes more light!

Wednesday 27 June 2007

This was a useful site, easily accessed. Thank you.
Jim Watson, Minister Coldstream & Eccles.

Hello there, My husband and I were wondering if there is a section of this website that is designed for those who wish to donate their piano to a church organisation. We would really apprecIate if you could help us find a good home for our piano. Many thanks. Susan & Harvie Milligan

Webteam note: Thank you for this comment and donation. There is an exchange and transfer available within the community section on the extranet. [more]

When I use it (not so often, just lately) it helps me keep in touch with what's going on in the broader church. I like the Church of Scotland because it's the "broad" church where I found myself "at home" when I was living in Belgium. I am English/British and we were/are a congregation of many nationalities and denominations. I have found the Pray Now section good because it gets you praying and points in a different direction from other daily thoughts. Interesting! Regards, Jon

I see that contact forms are available to download from the Law dept. for church officers (and for organists) but finding the page to make this happen has proved impossible.
David Affleck East Linton Scotland

Webteam note: Thank you for this comment. This information is intended for internal Church officiers and as such is found on the extranet. The Law Dept comes under the Central Services Committee within the Support Services Council, and this is where the information is found. [more]

I've just discovered your 'On this Day' page and am going to start using the
information in worship, I think it's a really good resource. However, although
you have people connected with specific days, it is not made clear what the
connection is - anniversary of birth, of death, of some other significant date,
saint's feast day etc. Please would you consider adding this information to
make a great facility better. In particular, it would be good to know what
Sunday 17th June is - John Morrison's birthday, date of death or other?
Many thanks David Slater

Greetings to the entire team of the Church of Scotland. I hail you for your great work you are doing. My name's Kiwalabye Ronald from Uganda. I am suggesting that we introduce the Church's Uganda chapter here in Uganda and the whole of Africa at large. The reason why am saying this is because I haven't seen any branches of the church in any part of Africa.
Kiwalabye Ronald, Uganda

As a member of the Church of Ireland, I feel that you have an excellent website. Very well laid out, very informant and helpful. When visiting Scotland, I would the occasional time, visit a Church of Scotland church to experience other forms of Christian worship. I found your map of parish churches most helpful in where we would be staying. Congratulations and very best wishes.
TJH, Ireland

Just a quick note to say I particularly liked the article on Lent by the Rev Robb.

Very many thanks for including the Wishaw parish opportunity in the community pages of the extranet section: someone with a theology degree who is interested in working full-time lifelong with the Church of Scotland - though not available until summer - is delighted that this kind of local info is available in this centralised way. Good wishes for your work

I really appreciate the Pray Now section of the website. Its great for individual and group reflection and can be adapted to fill different periods of time according to your needs.

I appreciate your worship resources and comments on scripture on the faith and worship website. I noticed earlier this week that there were no resources for December 10. Thank you for your work. I found your work through textweek.com

I just wanted to say many many thanks for responding to me so quickly, and for the bit of help that you gave too, I shall try the American site like you suggested and see if I can find out any further information about Rev William Christman. Moira Meldrum, address withheld

I just want to say how much I value your site. I couldn't find it when I looked this morning - Tuesday 28th - and realised how important it has become in my worship preparation. Thank you, God bless.

Dear minister, greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are fine in this part of the world. My names are Wambeye Wafula founder and pastor of the Vineyard of God in Webuye. I came a cross your website while surfing on the internet. We Believe the Lord has strategically placed you to pray and partner with us. The Lord will make a way for you to extend your ministry in this nation. We speak for a special anointing upon you, your family and your ministry. Have a lovely weekend!

I like the site because it takes me back to my days of my dad. He was a true Scotsman. He taught me the way to live is to respect everyone. And this site brings back many days of the past when he talked about being a Protestant. I enjoy logging into your site on Sunday and reading the prayer for that day. Thank you for being here.
William Dobbie (son of David Dobbie, Lassodie, Scotland)

I am delighted to see that you have replaced the Church of Scotland logo on your website with the correct logo, this is so much more eye catching and meaningful than the newer logo. I realise it may have been changed for a few weeks, but as I do not visit the website weekly or so, this is the first time I noticed it, thank you.
William A McCulloch, Neilston Parish Church, Scotland

Editor's note: thank you for this comment. In response to user feedback, we have introduced a page offering more information about the Church's logo and emblem here.

28 July 2006

There is no clear information about lay training courses, opportunities etc. In comparison to the United Reformed Church's site, this one is really not at all user friendly. Excerpts from proceedings are not helpful and give the impression of being aimed at Church 'insiders' rather than offering a genuinely welcoming information service.

Editor's note: for information about lay training courses, please contact the Ministries Council.

It was great to find this site. I was baptised in the South Leith Church of Scotland in May 1954. My granny lived in Leith Walk (Edinburgh). We migrated to Australia in 1958. Touring the church at the South Leith site brought back wonderful memories. I have always considered this my spiritual home and it was great viewing it again. Thank you for making this possible.
Pearl Nancy (McNicol) Koch, Australia

28 June 2006

Thank you so much for the wonderful work you do. I come to your site weekly to see what gems and thoughts the Holy Spirit has lead your various leaders to share with the world. Please keep up the wonderful work. Blessings.
The Rev Barbara Snyder, First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale, Pennsylvania, USA

8 May 2006

Your site is a wonderful blessing to me in my weekly ministry of the Word! I am a pastor in a rural area of Ohio (USA) and my opportunities to engage other colleagues is very limited. Consequently, I love to engage with other faith practices as a means of 'touching base' with commentaries and prayer resources. Your site is superb, 'like a letter from Christ'. Please keep up the excellent work, and know that we are one in Lord Jesus.
The Rev Mike Doak, Carrollton Christian Church, Ohio, USA

30 April 2006

I congratulate you on a vastly improved Church of Scotland website. It is much easier to navigate through than its predecessor.
Chris Hamilton, Fife, Scotland

28 April 2006

I enjoy your website. My father, James Angus Fletcher, was born in Carnoustie and a cousin sent me your website. I now live in Louisiana, USA.
Dorothy Norman, Louisiana, USA

I jut looked in for the first time in weeks. Not got time to have a really good look round yet, but so far so good. This really is a great way to spread the word.

I used to be able to access your excellent lectionary based worship and preaching material. It seems to have disappeared into the mist. I find this frustrating. When something is working well don't change it. If I am missing something please let me know.
The Rev Cyril Stewart Cook, United Church of Canada
Editor's note: this is a very popular area of the website so we have now centralised it along with all our worship resources into one area; Worship on the Web. Click here to visit that section. Worship on the Web logo and link to pages

Greetings from Carluke. Thanks for new website, looks like good tool for communication.
Colin Cuthbert, hospital chaplain, Carluke, Scotland

31 March 2006

This is really not a complaint nor a suggestion, it is just a comment. First let me
say I like the new site. Sadly, I have the residual effects of eye surgery and find
it very hard to discern the pale coloured fonts you use. I know that this must
look stunning, but I am unable to read it.
Name and address withheld

Editor's note: please try our accessibility pages, or alternatively you can alter the font size by using the preferences at the top of your browser window. While the site meets accessibility standards laid down in the Disability Discrimination Act, we will look into how we can help improve this further following your comments.

31 March 2006

This is a big improvement on the previous website and easier to navigate. Why presume folk want to complain? Where is the box that says: "I want to congratulate you on the new site"? Good comments are as valuable as complaints.
There is a book that suggests that we should be encouraged to catch folks doing something right instead of catching people doing the wrong. Well done people - you make life easier and better for the rest of us.
The Rev Andy Campbell, development team based in Perth, Scotland

Editor's note: many thanks for this comment. We have now included this additional box in our feedback form. Let us know your views by clicking here.

31 March 2006

I'm used to coming on to the site and finding the directory section... it seems to have gone missing.
Name and address withheld

Editor's note: you can now find contact details to our ministers, parishes and departments in our central contact us section.

30 March 2006

Really like the new look website - very attractive and easy to find what I was looking for - but also encouraged browsing which led me down various links of interest. Well done to all involved.
Malcolm Wilson, Dunblane, Scotland

30 March 2006

The new website is a great improvement on the old one but I think that a list of churches and where to find them, etc, should be prominent on the home page in the 'main links' or 'quick links' section. For instance there is the heading 'Come To Church' but there's no link to where the nearest church might be or how to find them. Otherwise it's a great resource.
John Fullerton, Victoria, Australia

Editor's note: this was a welcome suggestion and we have now included a link from the 'come to church' text on the front page to our online clickable map which lists every one of our ministers and parishes across our presbyteries in Scotland, England, Europe and Jerusalem.

30 March 2006

Well done on an excellent, user friendly web site.
The Rev Jim Watson, Coldstream and Eccles Parish, Scotland
