Selection of individuals for appointment
The Convener of the Nomination Committee Rev Iain D Cunningham,
wrote to Presbytery Clerks, Ministers, Session Clerks, and
the General Secretary of the Church of Scotland Guild to advise
them that, in January, the Nomination Committee will meet
to select individuals for appointment by the General Assembly
to its Councils and Standing Committees. A
list of these is shown below along with
information on what is expected of Committee members. Fuller
details can be found in the Year Book.
It is the Committee's task to identify ministers, deacons,
elders and members whose skills and experience will be of
particular use to a given area of work. In addition we seek
to maintain age and gender balance and a fair geographical
representation.
There are many people with the necessary skills and commitment but the Committee relies heavily on suggestions from across the Church.
Your assistance in this process is warmly
invited and to this end a pro-forma
can be downloaded below for completion:
Since the Church is a charity those appointed assume the role of charity trustees. Consequently the Nomination Committee advises that you approach those whom you wish to nominate and complete the pro-forma together. Once the Committee has met, those selected will receive a written invitation to accept nomination. Please note that there is no guarantee that all those put forward will be approached by the Committee and it would be helpful if you could explain this to those whom you nominate.

Secretary of the Nomination Committee,
