A committee open to all, begun June 2003 . meets three times a year in Edinburgh. . cooperates with a wide range of individual people, and public and charitable bodies . aims to ‘rescue’ threatened glass and to stimulate Scotland’s interest in it Chaired by Professor John Hume OBE, convener of the Church Art and Architecture Committee [CARTA] of the Church of Scotland CONSERVATION and CHANGE SSGS may advise on: . care and maintenance of glass .. conservation of glass . significance of stained glass . planning applications (glass) REPOSITORY GROUP . hopes to establish one or more repository to house significant stained glass that would otherwise be lost . could provide educational and other facilities in the repository Chaired by Mark Bambrough (Chair of the Institute of Conservation in Scotland, [ICON]) RECORDING and INVENTORIES Targets include: . deciphering, checking, and recording existing hand-written inventories . gathering and creating comprehensive indices of stained glass in Scotland and of stained glass artists who are Scottish by birth or domicile . creating an Inventory of Inventories Chaired by Iain Galbraith, stained glass inventorist and historian St John’s Chapel (Oil), Aberdeen Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, by Shona McInnes. Information provided by SSGS will be incorporated into SCHR's Gazetteer of Places of Worship in Scotland, (which already holds limited details on some 10,500 places).
