Departments overview

Overview

Around 2,000 professional support staff deliver a huge range of services, mission and support at national and international level for the Church of Scotland at our offices across Scotland. Following the significant reorganisation of central structures led by the Council of Assembly in 2005 in its drive to set priorities in the Kirk's work, the Church of Scotland's boards and committees were reorganised into six main councils and a number of associated committees and departments. You can access the latest information about minutes, meeting dates and resources for each of these councils, committees and departments below:

Church and Society Council
Engaging in the national, political and social issues affecting Scotland and the world today.

Council of Assembly
Setting priorities among, and evaluating the work of, the councils and committees.

General Trustees
Holds properties and investments for the Church.

The Guild
Scotland's largest voluntary Christian group, supporting Scottish and international projects.

Housing and Loan Fund
Helping ministers, their widows, widowers, separated or divorced spouses with housing needs in retirement.

Ministries Council
Supporting a variety of the ministries for the Church, from the first stirring of a 'call' through to retirement.

Mission and Discipleship Council
Promoting an overall focus for mission and developing resources for congregations.

Nomination Committee
Bringing before the General Assembly the names of those to serve on councils and committees.

Panel on Review and Reform
Listening to the local church and considering the Kirk's changing needs, challenges and responsibilities.

Parish Development Fund
Providing grants for projects involving local churches working with each other and with people in need.

Social Care Council
Offering services in Christ's name and specialist resources to further the caring work of the Church to people in need.

Support and Services Council
A network of committees including Assembly Arrangements, Central Services, Ecumenical Relations, Legal Questions, Safeguarding, Stewardship and Finance and Media Relations.

Trusts
Information about the Church's pensions, investors and property trusts.

World Mission Council
Working internationally to share the gospel, support theological education and
encourage holistic ministry.
