LINKING WORLDWIDE: MIDDLE EAST AND CENTRAL ASIA

Spotlight on... Israel and Palestine

Situation overview

The St Andrew's flag flies high in Jerusalem

In the long-running conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, Christian churches seek to be a force for reconciliation. They have spoken out often for justice and peace, and denounced violence. Yet in a conflict which runs so deep, words are a currency of limited value. If the love of Christ is to be communicated, it must be through action.

Today in Galilee, the area at the heart of Jesus’ ministry, the Church of Scotland can be justifiably proud of its investment of people, time and money. Through its institutions – the Church and St Andrew's Scottish Guest House in Jerusalem, the Scot’s Hotel in Tiberias and Tabeetha School in Jaffa - the work of the Church of Scotland in Israel and Palestine is visible and active.

Our partners

Our mission partners working in Israel and Palestine are: Ian Alexander (International Officer, Sabeel), Colin Johnston (Associate Minister, St Andrew's Church, Tiberias), James Laing (Regional Manager), Jimmy Maxwell (Teacher, Tabeetha School), George Shand (Minister, St Andrew's Church, Jerusalem), Antony Short (Headmaster, Tabeetha School).

Our partner churches are the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land.

Visit for a truly rewarding experience

The Church of Scotland is not just the buildings or the property we own in Israel, or even the people who work there on behalf of the Church. The Church of Scotland is you and your neighbour sitting beside you in the pew. That is who the Christian community in Israel and in Palestine want to meet, whether in a group or as individuals. The living stones want to tell their story face to face and they need your support through your presence.

A visit to Israel and Palestine honours a commitment to a people struggling to maintain their faith in the face of enormous pressures. The appreciation you will receive for being there may very well strengthen your own faith.
