Disaster emergency
appeals
 |
In times of emergency throughout the
world, funds are channelled through the Disaster
Emergency Committee (DEC) in which our relief agency,
Christian Aid is a major player. The Disasters Emergency
Committee in Scotland is an umbrella organisation
which represents World Mission’s relief partner
Christian Aid as well as British Red Cross, Concern
Worldwide, Oxfam, Save the Children, and Tearfund. |
It responds to major disasters and emergencies which cannot
be dealt with by the usual in-country coping mechanisms,
and where DEC member agencies are in a position to respond
quickly and effectively.
Find out more about our work in disaster hit areas
and current appeals by visiting our dedicated
appeal pages online here.

Church-to-project
support
| Not sure if you want
to have a long-term partnership with a congregation
overseas but want to raise funds for a specific
project? World Mission can help you to identify
a need within one of our partner churches and provide
you with the resources to get started. You can download
a guide to our current projects below. If you wish
to know more about our HIV/AIDS Project, visit our
dedicated pages online here for further
information and to donate online now! |

Support the HIV/AIDS Project by raising awareness
or funds
|
Church-to-project partnership support is also required
by the Scottish Churches' China Group, or SCCG. SCCG is
an ecumenical body drawing membership from most of the
main Christian traditions in Scotland. The World Mission
Council is committed to working in China through the SCCG.

Bangladesh
Blether
Boys Brigade companies all over Scotland are raising
money to help people like Albert, shown in this
photograph. Albert is 19 years old and lives in
a village 50km from Jessore in Bangladesh. His family
is very poor and although he went to a local school,
they were not able to pay for him to go to college.
A six month training course costs £150 or
£25 per month.

Helping young people go to get a trade
|
Through the Church Trade School (CCTS) Mobile Vocational
Training programme though, he is learning to become
a welder. CCTS is run by the Social Development Department
of the Church of Bangladesh. "This opportunity
has transformed my life," Albert says. "I
now will be able to gain full time employment and
help to support my family."
For more information, stories and activities and fundraising
ideas, visit the Bangladesh Blether website, which
is the newspaper of the Boys Brigade World Mission
Fund, at www.bbglasgow.org.uk/worldmissionfund/blether1.asp
(note: Blether is
a Scottish word meaning 'to chat'.)
