Building a World Church Team Building a World Church Team can be a really rewarding experience for a whole congregation. You could: * bring the world dimension to * identify projects to support * promote the Fairtrade Church initiative * campaign for justice for the world’s poor * develop a partnership with congregations overseas. The team can be small or large and include different roles. This fact sheet provides detailed descriptions of these roles: World Church representative: It would be useful for this lay person to be a member of the Kirk session. Above all, they should have a personal interest in World Mission. This role involves: * Informing – the minister and the congregation of the worldwide work of the Church of Scotland * Involving – a greater interest by the congregation in the life of their fellow Christians beyond their own parish and their own denomination * Organising – activities both with the congregation and with other churches, with the assistance of other members of the team * Liaising – with their presbytery's World Mission convener, the Presbyterial Council convener and project co-ordinator * Receiving – World Mission’s monthly newspaper incorporating Prayerlink, plus other material at regular intervals Partner Plan correspondent: This role involves: * Conveying – the life, work and witness of the congregation to mission partners overseas and the life, work and witness of mission partners to the congregation * Writing – to and encourage others to correspond with the congregation's mission partner. * Distributing – copies of the mission partner's letter and ensuring that all members are aware of the news contained in it * Liaising – with the World Mission Presbytery Convener about the mission partner's visit during their home leave * Assisting – the World Church representative in his/her role in the congregation * Receiving – Partner Plan letters, Partner Plan photographs, biographical notes. Photo displays and PowerPoint presentations are also available for each mission partner works on request. Guild representative: This role involves: * Helping – members of the Guild become more aware of the worldwide family of Jesus Christ, to which they belong * Informing – Guild members about the work of the Council by sharing the news they receive at council meetings * Encouraging – your Guild to support one of World Mission’s projects. A list of these is available on our website www.churchofScotland.com/world mission * Arranging – a World Mission meeting for Guild members during the kirk session * Assisting – the World Church representative in his/her role in the church * Receiving – information from the council project co-ordinator. World Mission news items appear in the Guild newsletter Christian Aid representative: This role involves: * Distributing – Christian Aid materials to the appropriate leaders and organisations in the parish and raising the profile of Christian Aid within the congregation * Encouraging -– more church members to receive and read Christian Aid materials * Promoting – action for the issues and concerns that Christian Aid is involved in worldwide * Co-ordinating – your congregation's involvement in Christian Aid week and be their representative on the local Christian Aid committee.
