Support and Services Council

 |
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Support and Services Council. As the
Support and Services Council provides a network under
which its six autonomous committees operate, this page
is a gateway to the individual web pages for these committees
and departments of the Church.
Remit
The Support and Services Council's role is to provide
opportunities for its component committees to meet and
consult, with an aim of identifying and therefore reducing
areas of overlap and duplication of work and resources.
While each committee of the Support and Services Council
reports directly to the General Assembly, they also submit
an annual report via the council to the Council of Assembly
for a review of progress made in their individual remits.

Assembly Arrangements Committee

The Assembly Hall
|
This committee makes all the arrangements
for the annual General Assembly each May in Edinburgh
and advises the Moderator on his or her official
duties. The General Assembly - which is attended
by hundreds of delegates representing not only all
of our presbyteries throughout Scotland, England,
Europe and Jerusalem, but also from partner churches
and faith organisations internationally - is the
supreme court of the Church of Scotland. It has
the authority to make laws determining how the Church
operates. The Assembly Arrangements Committee also
has responsibility for letting the Assembly Hall
and the care and maintenance of the Assembly Hall
and the Moderator's official residence in Edinburgh. |

wide range of work on behalf of the Church including
the management of the Church Offices in Edinburgh,
the Media Relations Unit, Law and IT departments
and the General Treasurer's Department. The Human
Resources Department, the central employing agency
of the Church of Scotland, is also represented in
this committee. Click

Assembly on matters of policy affecting ecumenical relations.
The committee is dedicated to working together with others
to foster unity and encourage an ecumenical vision in
Scotland and beyond. Simply put, ecumenism is the aim
of promoting unity and fellowship among the world's Christian
churches.

Safeguarding Office
 |
Previously known as the Child Protection
Unit prior to the significant structural changes
to the departments of the Church in May 2005, the
Safeguarding Office continues in its role to lead
the Church in the areas of child protection training
and assisting those who work in outreach with children
to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable
adults. |

Stewardship and Finance
The Stewardship and Finance Committee aims to teach, promote
and encourage Christian stewardship throughout the Church.
It also allocates the expenditure in the Church's Co-ordinated
Budget and helps ensure that congregations meet their
financial obligations by contributing throughout the year
towards their allocations.
