Gift Aid
Gift Aid is good news for the Church:
- It increases our giving by 28 per cent (25 per
cent plus 3 per cent transitional relief until April 2011).
- No minimum contribution is required.
- No particular amount has to be promised.
- There is no fixed term during which contributions
must be made.
- Tax made be recovered retrospectively.
All that is required is that the donor must pay UK
income tax or capital gains tax, at any rate, at least
equal to the amount of tax being reclaimed, and give
their offering or donation through offering envelopes
or by bank standing order or by cheque to establish
the necessary audit trail.
Donors must also sign a Gift Aid declaration.
| This is a simple form
which gives the name of the congregation (or ‘The
Church of Scotland’ if it is a donation through
the General Treasurer) and the donor’s name
and address (including postcode). |
 |
The donor signs and dates the form under these words:
"I want the congregation (or 'The Church of
Scotland') to treat all donations I have made for
the six years prior to this year, and all donations
I make from the date of this declaration, until I
notify you otherwise, as Gift Aid donations."
Visit our resources page

A gift to the Church
in your Will
The work of the Church has been assisted greatly by many
generous gifts in the Wills of members, adherents and
supporters. If you wish to make a gift in your Will to
support the work of the Church, your gift can be made
to support your local congregation or the work of a particular
council or the work of the Church of Scotland in general.
 |
A gift to the Church in your Will
is exempt from Inheritance Tax. The General Treasurer
and the Solicitor of the Church are always willing
to provide information about the work of the Church
to anyone interested in making a gift in their Will.

Biblical teaching
on giving
The Church teaches members and adherents to look to the
Bible for advice about giving. In 2004 the General Assembly
welcomed the Stewardship and Finance report on Christian
Giving, which emphasised New Testament teaching
on sacrificial giving. All members and adherents were
urged to give sacrificially in response to the sacrificial
giving of God in Christ.
The report to the Assembly and a leaflet about sacrificial
giving are available to download on our resources
page.
In 2006 the Stewardship and Finance Committee has produced
a new series of Bible studies entitled The
Bible teaches… GIVE. These studies are
an invitation to explore various biblical models of
giving.
The Bible teaches… GIVE
will be available to download shortly on our resources
page.
