INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Stewardship and Finance Committee, which
is one of six autonomous committees of the Support
and Services Council.
As with the other committees of the Support and Services
Council, the Stewardship and Finance Committee reports
directly to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland
and not via the council - which merely acts as a network
for its component parts. Click
here to find out more about the Church's General
Assembly annual event.
Remit
The committee aims to teach, promote and encourage Christian
stewardship throughout the Church. It does this by providing
programmes and training to assist congregations and their
office-bearers in teaching, promoting and encouraging
Christian giving of time, talent and money.
The Stewardship and Finance Committee is also responsible,
along with presbyteries, for allocating among congregations
the expenditure in the Church's Co-ordinated Budget
which is approved by the Council
of Assembly. Part of its role in this responsibility
is to ensure that congregations meet their financial
obligations by contributing throughout the year towards
their allocations.
The committee also takes the lead in providing financial
and accounting services for all the councils and committee
of the Church. It is also charged with maintaining and
updating statistical information and operating the banking
system for all councils, committee and statutory corporations,
other than the Social Care Council which has its own
arrangements.
