Remit
The council provides social care services as part of the
Christian witness of the Church to the people of Scotland.
Although CrossReach is part of the Church of Scotland,
its range of services are available to people of all faiths
or none at all. The Social Care Council's remit is to
offer services in Christ's name and specialist resources
to further the caring work of the Church to people in
need, such as the elderly, children, families and those
with learning difficulties. It also helps to identify
areas of need and to guide the Church in pioneering new
approached to relevant problems in society and to make
responses on issues arising in the council's areas of
concern. An annual review of the council's work is presented
to the General Assembly each year.
The Social Care Council:
working to provide care for older people
CrossReach
CrossReach is the working name of the Social Care Council,
launched in June 2005. CrossReach continues the Church
of Scotland's long tradition of providing care and support
which started back in 1869. The council has more than
2,000 staff in 80 services working across Scotland, from
Shetland to the Borders. Care and support services help
thousands of people in need every day of the year. CrossReach
has an annual expenditure of more than £45 million,
of which less than one per cent comes directly from the
Church of Scotland. Most of the council's funding comes
from local authorities with donations and legacies essential
to help continue the vital work.
