Featured project of the month

Study Buddy Club
Drylaw Parish Church, Edinburgh

The Study Buddy Club in Drylaw Parish Church, Edinburgh has been running on Wednesday evenings since September 2008 and is run by two youth workers, Paul and Jackie Collins.

The Club provides a safe, fun environment for local young people between P6 and S2 to study, do homework, research and play educational games on the internet for part of the evening with activities such as table tennis, Nintendo Wii, chess, arts and crafts, board games, and quizzes being available for the rest of the time.

We keep in touch with the teachers at the local primary school so research can be targeted towards whatever projects are being undertaken at that time, for example World War 2, the Victorians and the solar system.
We also provide information and assistance to help the young people keep themselves safe when using the internet, especially on social networking sites such as Bebo, Facebook and MSN.

We've had a visit from the local community police officer and are arranging a visit to the police station to see what goes on behind the scenes. We're also hoping to do the same with the fire service over the next few months.

Last summer, we had a day trip to Pilton Retreat in Ratho. It was great to spend time outdoors, playing games and having fun. Hopefully we can do this again in 2010.

The Club has its own website - www.studybuddyclub.btik.com - where we can keep up to date with what's happening, see photos of what we've done and keep in touch by e-mail or via the guestbook.
