Project Workers' Residential 2010
PDF-funded project staff met at the Carnegie Conference Centre in March for this year's residential event. The event kicked off with a conversation about Urban and Rural Poverty and the resulting community needs, led by Rev Martin Johnstone and Rev Alex Millar, followed by musical entertainment provided by Aberdeen's Revelation choir. The choir, and the dinner afterwards, were lauded by all in their evaluation sheets!
Saturday began with an illustration of the power and complexity of networks, led by the incoming Convener, Rolf Billes. Three workshops offered opportunities for learning and the sharing of questions and solutions: Lesley Greenaway (Evaluation and Professional Development Services) led a session on self-evaluation for service improvement rather than just reporting, Alistair Cameron of Scottish Churches Housing Initiative gave food for thought with case studies about roles and communication within organisations, and finally, Douglas Westwater of Community Enterprise, Ltd., presented on possibilities for sustainability offered by social enterprise.
 |
There were plenty of opportunities for tea, coffee, and chatting with other workers, and many attendees looked favourably on the idea of a PDF forum to continue their conversations. |
To judge by our feedback, a good time, and a useful one, was had by all.

The Parish Development Fund organises events on a regular basis and information about the next ones to be held will be available here soon.
Some of the events below are organised outwith the Church but may be of interest.
Valuing Volunteers workshop
Date: Wednesday 9 June
Venue: Anderson Kelvingrove Church, Glasgow
Many faith based organisations would be unable to deliver their services if it were not for the contribution of volunteers. How do we show volunteers that their assistance is valued and help them develop their confidence and skills in the process? What are the benefits of engaging with volunteers? How do we set up simple systems to recruit, train, support and retain volunteers? Pick up a useful toolkit to customise and explore all this and more at the Valuing Volunteers Workshop. If interested, contact Margo (e: margo@transformationteam.org, t: 0141 221 4576).
The training is open to faith groups outwith priority areas in Glasgow but the number of places are limited so would be on a first come first served basis. Please feel free to post the information on your website for groups to access. Groups outwith Glasgow wishing to attend our training should contact the lead person to discuss the possible attendance. Andrew is the lead person with regards the Community Research Training and Margo is the lead person on the Volunteering training.

In our own words: Haldane Trust's music
|
The Haldane Trust was featured in one of recent newsletters and you can listen to some of the music mentioned below. |
The Trust works in partnership with local schools and churches in Stirling, running programs for young people. Last year, it started a project where students wrote, recorded and produced their own songs. An album is available on cd from Josh Milton on 01786 480014. More information is available on the Trust's website at www.thehaldanetrust.org.uk.
These tracks are in mp4a format, and you will need RealPlayer or QuickTime on your computer to play them.
