"Lively and engaging worship
reflects the historical faith of the Church in contemporary
forms. It also provides opportunities for people
to explore the meaning of their faith in a prayerful
and reflective manner." |
Areas
of work
The Worship and Doctrine Task Group is responsible for
stimulating study and discussion of matters of faith and
doctrine, both within the Church of Scotland and ecumenically.
It also helps to provide a focus for worship resources
and works with congregations to develop worship locally
while helping to identify the emergence of patterns of
spirituality and prayer for today.
| It is responsible for the production
annually of Common Order
- the Church's book of services and resources for
public worship drawing from a wide range of church
traditions - and the
prayer for each day publication Pray
Now. Full details of Common Order, and other
books for worship, are available on our Worship
on the Web pages. |
 |
The group also takes responsibility for encouraging
new developments in church music and the training of
musicians and providing material for worship in Gaelic.
Resources for music in worship are available on our
Worship on the Web section here.
Different Voices is the new quarterly magazine from the
Music Panel, a sub-group of the Worship and Doctrine Task
Group.. It is for all the people who make the music in
the Churches, and that includes congregations who sing
and clergy who have choices to make. Not least it is for
organists and directors of music, members of choir, instrumental
groups, praise bands, or policy and planning committees,
and all others who make a special contribution to church
music. The first issue was sent free to all Ministers;
to subscribe to the introductory offer of £14 for
the next four issues, please contact the Office
of Worship and Doctrine or call 0131 225 5722, ext
359.
Along with its work with the Committee on Church Art and Architecture, the group is also
involved in guarding and renewing the best traditions
of the Church in doctrine, worship and the places where
we gather.
