ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Overview
The Mission and Discipleship Council's Committee on Church
Art and Architecture advises and regulates, in partnership
with the General Trustees, the development of buildings
to meet new needs and circumstances.

Nigel Robb
|
The Rev Nigel Robb, Associate Secretary
with responsibility for art and architecture, explains
the importance of the group's work: "Sensitive
and creative development of our historical heritage
of buildings and imaginative new environments for
|
worship are essential for the Church of the future."
Areas of work
| The Committee advises congregations
and presbyteries about the most appropriate way
of carrying out renovations, alterations and reordering
of interiors, with attention to the architectural
quality of the Church building. It also advises
on the installation of stained glass, tapestries,
memorials and furniture and furnishings. The Committee
can also provide a list of accredited artists and
crafts people. |

Worship environment: new and old Church buildings
come under the group's remit
|
The Committee works closely with the General
Trustees in matters of alterations to the interior
or exterior of Church buildings which affect the appearance.
It is the Committee's driving force to conserve the
nation's heritage as expressed in its Church buildings,
while at the same time helping to ensure that these
buildings continue to serve the worship and witness
of the Church in the present day.
