Welcome from the convener
 |
"At
the beginning of a new millennium, and in a rapidly
changing culture, social and spiritual environment,
the Church faces many new opportunities and challenges.
In its witness to the |
eternal Gospel, the Church must always be prepared to
reflect on, and take appropriate account of, the diverse
contexts in which it finds itself. In its service for
the Church the Mission and Discipleship Council has been
entrusted with various important tasks. Two are primary.
Firstly, we are called to take a lead role in promoting
an overall focus for mission in Scotland. This reflects
the recognition that our whole identity in the Church
is bound up with our sharing and living out the good
news in our time and place. In all aspects of our
work, therefore, we seek to develop an attitude that is
outward looking and shaped by the worship of God and the
mission imperative of the Gospel. Our second priority
is to develop and deliver to congregations quality resource
so assist their own renewal as communities of nurture,
worship and witness."

Angus Morrison,

Working together
The work of the council will be taken forward by
its Publishing Committee and the Committee on Church
Art and Architecture, along with three task groups: |
 |
- The Education and Nurture Task Group
- The Mission and Evangelism Task Group
- The Worship and Doctrine Task Group
This is in addition to the Regional Development Team
which is at the heart of the council's strategy. Eight
regional officers are based around Scotland with offices
in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Perth.
The Mission and Discipleship Council has also established
a Mission Forum for the Church with the goal that a
mission-oriented ethos should inform and affect every
area of work undertaken by the Church.
You can find out more about the work carried out by
these committees, teams and task groups by using the
links on the right hand side of this page.
