INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Legal Questions Committee, which is
one of six autonomous committees of the Support
and Services Council.
Remit
The remit of the Legal Questions Committee is to advise
the General Assembly on questions of Church law and of
constitutional law affecting the relationship between
the Church and State.

Church and State: every year a representative
of the monarchy is invited to attend the General
Assembly
|
The committee is also charged with advising and assisting
the agencies of the General Assembly in preparing proposed
legislation and on questions of interpretation, including
interpretation of and proposed changes to remits.
The Legal Questions Committee is responsible for compiling
statistics of the Church (except for youth and finance)
and to supervise, on behalf of the General Assembly,
all arrangements for the care of Church records and
presbytery visits.
It also conducts an annual review of progress made
within this remit and provides a written report to the
Support and Services Council on its findings.
As with the other committees of the Support and Services
Council, the Legal Questions Committee reports directly
to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and
not via the council. Click
