INTRODUCTION
Around 2000 professional support staff deliver a huge
range of services, mission and support at national and
international level for the Church of Scotland at our
offices across Scotland.
Following the significant reorganisation of central
structures led by the Council of Assembly in 2005 in
its drive to set priorities in the Kirk's work, the
Church of Scotland's boards and committees which previously
carried out day to day policy making and practical decision
making for the Church at local, national and international
levels were reorganised into six main councils and a
number of associated committees and departments.
The six councils, each with their own specific remit
to carry out the work of the Church, are
- Church and Society;
- Ministries;
- Mission and Discipleship;
- Social Care;
- Support and Services; and
- World Mission.
Each of these departments has its own area on this
website to provide a comprehensive introduction to their
work for first time visitors and those unfamiliar to
the internal structure of the Church.
The extranet
For more in-depth information about the work, including
minutes and lists of meeting dates, of these departments
you can visit our extranet site. This area is not password
protected, but it is written specifically for staff, office
bearers and those in the ministries who will likely already
have an understanding of how the Church's structure contributes
to its day to day operation.
